Jerwood Gallery are delighted to be supporting The Syrian Resettlement Project East Sussex and The Links Project, Hastings, in hosting a series of creative workshops for local refugee families.

'Discover' is a lens based multi-disciplinary project led by artist Nicole Zaaroura, working with local refugees, asylum seekers and migrant communities. Through a series of workshops, the group explores making site responsive work in a co- creational environment. Using photography, material as research and performative actions as process, attendees are helped in creating new spaces for ideas and voices to emerge, becoming experimentalists, explorers, and mapists...

The project will run until May 2019, culminating in a gallery sited installation (details below).*

Nicole Zaaroura is an artist working with photography, sound, moving image and installation, exploring notions of intimacy and distance, the meditative and discordant, through documented performative acts in both public and private locations.  Nicole's practice is rooted in encounter, and an investigation into the brutal tenderness within journeys.
