Prize-winning stories inspired by works of art including the Exbury Egg (Jerwood Gallery 2017), read by Joan Taylor-Rowan and guests.  

- Inside the Egg. A volunteer causes trouble at Jerwood Gallery (International Cambridge Short Story Prize 2017, second place)

- A member of the firing squad in Manet’s The Execution of Maximilian (National Gallery) is changed forever

The event will include two story readings then an opportunity for attendees to wander the gallery with story cards and come up with their own ideas based on an artwork on display. After a short interval, there will be a third story reading * followed by attendees reading out their story ideas - like flash fiction. Ticket price includes a complimentary drink.

Joan Taylor-Rowan is a prize winnng writer and author of The Birdskin Shoes, a tale of circuses and Mexico - her first novel. She has had several stories read on Radio 4 and performed at Short Fuse, Storytales, Liars' League and Tales of the Decongested.  Joan's work appears in a number of anthologies, most recently Stories for Homes Vol.2, published by Shelter to raise money for the homeless.

* Write a short story to be read at ART Stories at Jerwood Gallery, inspired by an artwork work in the gallery and with a maximum of 1800 words.
Closing date: 21st July, 5pm; Length: 1800 words MAX;  Put the title of the story, the piece of art that inspired it and the artist’s name at the top of the first page, with your own name. The winning story will be read out at the event. Send your completed stories as a word.doc ( Courier, Ariel  Times New Roman, double-spaced, page numbered, 11 or 12 font) to joanieosb@hotmail.com.
