Shopkeepers of the World is a project uniting and celebrating the culture of shopping in St Leonards on Sea and Bexhill, exploring the charity shop as a vessel for memories of people and place and how they hold the objects that tell a story of our community.

Staff and volunteers in charity shops in St Leonards and Bexhill are collecting the stories behind charity shop objects. The objects and stories will inspire a series of art installations by artists Melanie Wilson, Noemi Lakmaier, Albery Potrony and Hermione Allsopp, which will be exhibited in situ in charity shops in September 2018.

Bring along a pre-loved item you’d like to donate to a local charity, or your own charity shop find to our Donation Day in Jerwood Gallery Studio on May 12th, and share the story behind it with a cup of tea.

A Quiet Down There project in partnership with St Michael’s Hospice, Shelter, Hastings Furniture Service, Hastings and Bexhill Mencap, Autism Sussex, De La Warr Pavilion, Jerwood and Arts Council England.

Quiet Down There (QDT) is a Community Interest Company that specialises in amplifying the everyday. We believe that culture is everywhere and everyone creates culture in their own way.  We strive to create and support environments where individuals, artists, communities and organisations can articulate and develop their own culture - making the invisible visible.
