Drawing Life
Watch this space

Picasso said it took him a lifetime to learn to draw like a child. It is sometimes said that we revert to childhood as we age.

Drawing Life offers people with nearly a lifetime behind them the chance to respond to a life model with a stick of charcoal and a piece of paper, bringing life drawing activities to local people living with dementia and their carers. Each class takes place with two professional artist educators and a life model. The act of drawing encourages concentration and engagement and we have found that drawing helps carers connect with people with dementia in new ways.

Project Director, Judy Parkinson, has a special interest in art and memory both as an artist and an author. Judy has spent many an hour at life drawing classes and is the is the author of the best-selling book about mnemonics "I Before E, Except After C, easy ways to remember stuff".

Jerwood Gallery have been delighted to welcome Judy, tutor Robert Sample, model Mike Mitchell and the Drawing Life team for four sessions at the gallery over the last year and look forward to welcoming them back in the near future. Watch this space for future sessions.
