Botanical Illustration Workshop
11 February 2017

Come draw and explore the wonderful world of plants this February with Wild Life Drawing, inspired by the great botanical illustrators including still life expert Eliot Hodgkin, who’s beautifully detailed “Pink and White Roses” from 1952 forms part of the Jerwood Collection.

Roses, terrariums, succulents and other fabulous foliage will make up the botanical displays. We will be joined by Emma Sibley – founder of London Terrariums – who will be bringing along a variety of vessels and her green-fingered knowledge to talk us through the plants, their properties, uses and origins before drawing them.

The class will start with an introduction to Botanical Illustration, it’s purpose and prominent artists through the ages. Everyone will have the opportunity to study the plants closely and a variety of materials will be on offer to experiment with throughout the day.

Saturday 11 February, 1pm - 4pm (includes a short break)

£20 (£18 for Jerwood Gallery Members). Workshop fee includes free gallery entry.

Suitable for 12+

All abilities are welcome, and Wild Life Drawing founder London-based visual artist, educator and workshop leader Jennie Webber will be on hand for tips and advice throughout as well as demonstrating how to work with different media.
The drawing class is open to all, from beginners to advanced. All drawing materials are supplied, including paper and drawing boards, but please feel free to bring colours or any other specific media you might like to use.

Drawing tips and guidance will be provided throughout the session. The aim of these drawing classes is to inspire a sense of appreciation and understanding for the natural world and to educate attendees on conservation issues around the globe.

The plants sourced will be grown in the UK to avoid the air miles incurred by imported flowers.

Booking is essential, as events are subject to availability and may be cancelled if minimum numbers are not reached, so please book to avoid disappointment. Call 01424 728377 during gallery opening hours to book your place.
