SaunaKabin: Ts and Cs

Before you book your sauna session...

Thank you for choosing to participate in the SaunaKabin installation at the Jerwood Gallery.

This is a working sauna and each visitor must read the guidelines below before participating. Please print this page and sign.


What you need to know:

  • Normal gallery ticket pricing applies
  • The sauna is for the use of visitors over the age of 18
  • Please note that the sauna can only be accessed via five steps
  • Visitors must wear a swimsuit and bring their own towels, footwear and drinking water: please note that towels, footwear and drinking water will not be provided
  • Once you have been admitted at the front desk, please wear your wristband to allow you to leave (for example to swim in the sea) and re-enter at any point during your timeslot
  • Sauna sessions last one hour and up to six people may use the sauna at one time
  • Changing facilities are in the gallery’s public toilets on the ground and first floors
  • Lockers are available to store personal items - please collect a key from the front desk on arrival.  If all the lockers are in use, please speak to a member of staff at front desk
  • Please be aware that the sauna is within the gallery environment and you will be walking between public areas in order to access the SaunaKabin in our courtyard
  • This is a relaxing environment: please, no phones or cameras in the sauna
  • Do not touch the heating element inside the sauna. One scoop of water (provided in the sauna) may be put on the rocks at a time
  • An outdoor cold shower is available but please don’t use soap or shampoo in the courtyard area
  • Please don’t eat in the sauna or have a large meal up to an hour before using it
  • Drink plenty of water before and after using the sauna.  If you need to cool down, sit outside the sauna or use the outdoor shower
  • If you feel dizzy, nauseated or have a headache, leave the sauna immediately and sit outside and/or seek help from a member of staff
  • Anyone under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be permitted to use the sauna


You must not use the sauna if:

  • You are pregnant
  • You suffer from any of the following: diabetes; seizures; heart disease, circulatory problems, high or low blood pressure; any infectious skin disease, wounds or sores; any illness causing an inability to perspire; migraine; any condition that makes you unsure as to the advisability of using the sauna
  • You are taking antihistamines, anticoagulants, vasoconstrictors, vasodilators, stimulants, hypnotics or tranquilisers, or any other medication which may affect you in the sauna.


If you are in doubt about your ability to use the sauna safely, please consult your GP.


The gallery is not responsible for any personal health-related incidents that occur while using the sauna.
