What’s happening on site

Since the last newsletter the design team has been working hard to prepare the project for tender, and we hope to announce the appointment of a building contractor shortly – watch this space! The project is still scheduled to start on site later this spring.

Hastings Borough Council’s highways work is now well underway, and demolition of the existing toilet block is imminent. The Council’s main contractor, Westridge Construction has started work on site and the Stade coach and lorry park, and Fishmarket car park are now closed. The new coach park in Falaise Road has already opened. Westridge are responsible for building the new community facilities, cafe, and the open space which will still occupy most of the site.

In the mean time, the wider Jerwood team has been developing our links with other local partners, particularly Sussex Coast College, with whom we are pleased to be hosting an art prize (see below) and who are coordinating the work with local schools to decorate the hoardings around our site. The Jerwood Gallery is also contributing to the local community by supporting the Hastings and St Leonards 108th International Sea Angling Boat Festival that is held on 18th, 19th and 20th June 2010.

Jerwood Gallery was able to offer newsletter subscribers the chance to win a pair of tickets to the Henry Moore exhibition at Tate Britain. The three lucky winners have been notified and we hope to offer more opportunities like this in the future.
