Sir Quentin Blake visited the gallery last week and did some sketching on Hastings fishing beach in preparation for an upcoming project that he is working on with us this summer. Blake will be creating his own artistic response to highlights from the Jerwood Collection and producing a children’s guide to the gallery, as part of the summer Jerwood Drawing Festival.

BBC South East came down to chat to Sir Quentin about the project. You can view the coverage here

The summer Drawing Festival will also include 'Artist as Selector - The Jerwood Drawing Prize 1994-2014', an exhibition of works by artist selectors of Jerwood's Drawing Prize. 2014 marks the twentieth year of the Jerwood Drawing Prize, the largest and longest running annual open exhibition for drawing in the UK.

Over the summer there will be numerous drawing events and activities, including a drawing symposium led by Professor Anita Taylor of Drawing Projects UK as well as drawing workshops and classes. The gallery will also have a drawing café with activities for both children and adults.
