The Jerwood Gallery is being entirely funded by the Jerwood Foundation – both its build costs of £4m and its running costs in perpetuity. The wider Stade masterplan is being funded by a partnership of local, regional and national partners. These include a £2m grant from the central government Sea Change fund, alongside funding from Hastings Borough Council, East Sussex County Council, SEEDA and the Arts Council which makes up the other £2.5m of the costs. In total, £8.5m will be spent on the area, with the Jerwood investment successfully helping to secure the funding from central government and SEEDA that would otherwise not be spent in Hastings.
The coach park will close in autumn 2009 and demolitions are likely to take place in the winter of 2009-10. The gallery, public space and community facilities will start on site in spring 2010 and are scheduled to open by the summer of 2011. Further updates on the timescales, and photos of work progressing on site, will be posted on this website in due course so please visit again soon.
