In this week's blog our Front of House Coordinator, Rebecca Fletcher, reflects on the past year and says thank you to our Front of House team.

2014 has been a very exciting and busy year for the gallery’s Front of House team. The biggest and most exciting change was the introduction of over 60 volunteers. Our volunteers have dedicated their time and energy to support the gallery to develop and expand its visitor offering. Over the past year they have supported our visitors to engage with the exhibitions, helped children who take part in our education programme to understand and enjoy the exhibitions, and have assisted the marketing team by conducting visitor surveys to help inform their yearly strategy. The commitment the volunteers have shown to our visitors and the gallery is tremendous and we are incredibly grateful to them all.

This year the gallery has hosted a fantastic variety of exhibitions including Jerwood Collection: Revealed, Ansel Krut: Verbatim, Jerwood Drawing Festival, and Jake & Dinos Chapman: In the Realm of the Unmentionable. Each show completely transforms the gallery spaces. The diversity of exhibitions requires staff and volunteers to possess an understanding of both historical and contemporary work, as well as a range of artistic techniques. I am continually amazed by the depth of knowledge and insight the team contribute to each exhibition. From giving our vistors an insight into the exhibitions, to hosting private views and running a live tattooing event at the gallery, our team demonstrate a fantastic ability to adapt to the very different and sometimes surreal experiences each show brings.

One of the main highlights of the year for the team has been the work we have done with Sussex Coast College to become the first gallery in Sussex to achieve WorldHost status. This status is a tribute to the Front of House staff and volunteers’ dedication to uphold an excellent standard of customer service, and I would like to thank Sussex Coast College for the opportunity to take part and for their support.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank all of our Front of House staffand volunteers for all their wonderful hard work, it has been a pleasure getting to know all of the new faces and I look forward to what 2015 will bring!
