The Five of Us by Quentin Blake
Tate Publishing. RRP £11.99 (10% off for Jerwood Gallery members)

Quentin Blake’s distinctive and joyful style of illustration is recognisable to adults and children around the world. He is best known for creating drawings to accompany other peoples’ stories, most famously those of Roald Dahl and Michael Rosen. In his children’s book The Five of Us, Quentin Blake has not only created some beautiful new illustrations, but has also written the story of a group of extraordinary young people.

The Five of Us tells the story of Angie, Ollie, Simona, Mario and Eric – five friends with amazing talents. During a trip to the countryside disaster strikes, and Angie, Ollie, Simona, Mario and Eric come to the rescue by working together. The characters and their adventures are beautifully captured in Blake’s original drawings.

Quentin Blake has won numerous awards over the years, including the Whitbread Award, the Kate Greenaway Medal, and the Hans Christian Andersen Award for Illustration. In 1999 he was appointed the first ever Children's Laureate, and in 2005 was created CBE.
