Business and Learning Manager Anna McCrickard, gets us in the festive mood this week with her Christmas gift inspiration blog.

If you’re looking for unusual, art orientated gifts this Christmas look no further than the Jerwood Gallery shop! We are open for browsing during gallery hours and you don’t need to pay entry fees. If you are a member of the gallery you will also receive a discount on most items.

Esa Evans’ seaside inspired handmade jewellery in laser cut steel, gold and rose gold make beautifully elegant and affordable gifts. For something a little bolder why not try Tatty Devine’s playful, laser cut acrylic jewellery – ice-cream earrings, lobster and fishbone necklaces or Breton anchor brooches. Tatty Divine is stocked by Tate Modern and the Design Museum; you won’t find them anywhere closer than Brighton.

For something more traditional, our Edward Bawden and Eric Ravilious cloth bound diaries make a lovely and practical, Century: 100 Modern British Artists exhibition inspired, gift. If you’re a Stanley Spencer fan, treat yourself to a limited edition print from the original sketch for Sarah Tubb and the Heavenly Visitors, currently on display in A Panorama of Life

Two recently introduced children’s gift brands for gallery shop are Eeboo and Mud Puppy, with their attractive sea creature designs and quirky art inspired products. Andy Warhol crayons, each a different Warholian shade, Under the Sea giant jigsaws and Blue Whale growth charts, will keep the little ones more than happy. Get their imaginations going with our fantastic Eat Sleep Doodle pillowcases!

We also stock a wide selection of gorgeous art inspired children’s books; from colouring and creative activities to more educationally orientated reads, all brilliantly designed and attractive on the eye.

We‘ve just refreshed our popular stock of Eastbourne-based ceramicist Anne Barrell’s Alfred Wallis inspired pieces. Choose from milk jugs, pedestal bowls and rum cups, to compliment Ann’s stunning larger pieces. Each is hand cast and unique for a really special gift.

Think outside the box and gift somebody an experience. For the plant lover in your life, tickets for our Botanical Illustration workshop on Saturday 11 February with the fabulous Wild Life Drawing, and London Terrariums are now available.

For more frivolous items, from stocking fillers to larger gifts, see our Frida Kahlo and Art History paper dolls, Art Trump Cards, My Big Art Show exhibition game and fridge magnets galore!

And finally, Christmas cards. Take your pick from Modern British artists John Nash, Edward Bawden, Eric Ravilious, Mary Fedden and Ben Nicholson or local artist/designer Guy Callaby’s stylised local scenes: something for everyone.

If you are looking for an extra extra special gift to splash out on this Christmas, with proceeds going to a worthy cause, what better than an original artwork?

We were recently delighted to receive a message from the nation’s favourite illustrator, Sir Quentin Blake, announcing that he had uncovered seven additional pieces from his Life Under Water series. Quentin has generously gifted the works to Jerwood Gallery, with all sales proceeds to be split between our Education Programme and the Hastings Storytelling Festival.

We also still have a few limited edition prints of Hastings Memories available by Sir Peter Blake, also kindly gifted to the gallery. The prints are for sale unframed, for the bargain price of £150 inclusive of VAT.
